I do know in the late 1890's, there was an overnight steamtrain that left everyday from Mckeesport PA around 6pm and arrived non-stop at New Madrid at 8am.
Mckeesport is just 13 miles east of Pittsburgh. Seems strange that there would be that many people who could keep a train full of non-stop passengers from a small town in Pittsburgh going to New Madrid.
Many people feel Meriwether Lewis lived in Mckeesport and it is the site of the Lewis and Clark cemetery lot at Versailles Cemetery in Mckeesport.
