I went to Vigo County (Fontanet) last week to look for graves. I had information that Andrew b. 1835, was burried in Sulphur Springs cemetery, and I finaly did find him and his wife, Mary (Faris) Nevins, on the same stone, with their name spelled Leusader. This stone is made of Granite and it's in good shape. Also found his son Andrew next to him. This son never married, and lived to be over ninety. Also next to Andrew III is his sister Hester and her husband Calvin Lathon. This cemetery is in poor shape, woods have taken over and weeds are over grown in parts of it, and there looks to have been some vandalism. There is a Church at Sulphur Springs that looks to still be in use. I stopped to talk to some people I seen in their yard,(on Lewsader road) it turned out to be J.W. (Van Hook)they are distantly related. They told me Andrew III and his brother Snowden went to this church at one time.
The Locals told me there are other cemeteries near by, that are completley taken over by the woods, and are dispoiled even if you could find them. I wasn't dressed for such an expedition, so I just searched the one grave yard.
I found out there has been an ongoing political fight about the matter of the cemeteries in the township not being kept up because of lack of funding. I suspect there are other Lewsaders in the area, but we may never find their graves or headstones. And being they are from the era of the 1800s, the stones may be made of Limestone and difficult if not Impossible to read.
I would like to know if anyone has located the grave of Andrew Luzader/Lewsader b.1791 or if anyone has a death date for him. He may have died in Fountain Co. I may go there, and Vermillion County next month to dig into whatever records I may find.
