Hi Walt, here are some web sites for Jewish information. Some of them also have info about the Sephardic Jews and the Marranos. The second group has info about the Louzada family. As for general reading material it would be better to search your local library's catalog for "Sephardic" "Marranos" "Inquisiton" rather than me recommending a book that is not available in your area.

"Some converted (Conversos) and some pretended to convert but remained secret Jews (Marranos). The term Marranos means “pigs“. They were also called "Crypto-Jews". Some Louzada family members faced the auto de fe's in Portugal and were burned at the stake in Brazil when the Inquistion traveled to the Spanish and the Portugese colonies."

Some reference to Louzada
I like Mr. Evan Millner's site - it has info about Bevis Marks and Barbados. He has been working on cemetery restoration in Bridgtown.

If you are interested in the Louzada family the following books have some information about them.
Dr. David de Sola Pool, Portraits Etched in Stone.
Malcolm Stern, First American Jewish Families.
Isaac S. and Suzanne A. Emmanuel, History of the Jews of the Netherlands Antilles.
Ruth Marcus Patt, The Jewish Scene In New Jersey's Raritan Valley.
Ms. Patt's book will be in the genealogy section of the library if they have a copy and they probaly won't let you borrow it.

Good Luck, you can always contact me through the Forum or email.
