Hi, Sandy!

Yes, I've read the same thing. According to Arthur William L'Hommedieu in "L'Hommedieu Genealogy", Vol I, pgs. 184-5:

"No. 1914. Jonathan Hudson, born in England May 5, 1658. Died Apr. 5, 1729. Married June 17, 1686 Sarah (???).

"Children (1) Sarah, (2) Deborah, (3) Jonathan, (4) Hannah, (5) Richard, (6) Asenath, (7) Mary, (8) Samuel.

"Mary Hudson (7) married 22 Feby 1727 John L'Hommedieu. Samuel Hudson (8) married Grisel L'Hommedieu, brother and sister."

Now, as to where Mary came from...I'm sure you've seen a number of references to her as being the daughter of Jonathan Hudson and his wife Sarah (nee?). The most positive reference I've seen as to the lineage of Sarah has been in "The History of Ancient Wethersfield", a portion of which revolves around the Wickham family.

The history lists Sarah Wickham as the daughter of Thomas and Sarah (nee?) Wickham as follows:

"3. Sarah, b. 29 Oct. 1653 (Weth. Rec.), m. _____ Hudson."

The will of Sarah (nee? Churchill?, widow of Thomas) Wickham (Hartford County Probate Records) references her daughter, Sarah Hudson. It also references her daughter Sarah Hudson's son, named John Cherry. This indicates that Sarah [Wickham] Hudson may have been married previously, and her birth date (29 Oct 1653) and date of marriage to Jonathan Hudson (17 Jun 1626 in Lyme, CT.) would support that theory, as she would have been about 32 years old at the time. I have seen further unsubstantiated evidence that she was indeed married to a John Cherry in Wethersfield, CT about 26 Jun 1669 (she would have been about 16 years old then).

Wethersfield vital records (from Barbour) list the following:

CHERRY, CHEERRY
John, m Sarah ______, June 26, 1669
John, son John & Sarah, b July 1, 1672
Henry, son John & Sarah, b Feb 14, 1673

All in all, then, here's how I have it listed:

Sarah Wickham, d. Thomas and Sarah (Churchill?) Wickham; b. 29 Oct 1653, Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut; d. 11 Sep 1727, prob. Wethersfield, Hartford County, Connecticut:
M(1) 26 Jun 1669, John Cherry, b.?, d.?
Children:
John Cherry, b. 1 Jul 1672
John Cherry, b. 14 Feb 1673
M(2) 17 Jun 1686 in Lyme, Middlesex County, Connecticut, Jonathan Hudson, b. 1658 in Engleand; d. 5 Apr 1729 in Southold, Suffolk county (Long Island), New York
Children:
Samuel Hudson, b. abt. 1700
Mary Hudson, b. bef. 1712

I'm sure you're aware that Mary and Samuel both married into the L'Hommedieu family, Samuel marrying Mary's husband's sister Grissle L'Hommedieu.

I know that all this is not well documented, but it's the best I have. Hope it helps!

Regards, Bill
