regarding chinese names

I had typed chinese family generation names and had discovered from the articles written that a chinese in his lifetine can possess five different names ,but perhaps n the qing dynasty it wasnt so many so i am thinking if the charcter qing and yuan had not appeared in my ancestor tombstone perhaps he had wanted that name to be displayed rather qing/yuan what do you think?
