Rodney,

Thanks for answering my query. I have not seen the name "Alexor" before. Is there a legal record that has it that way? I question because I have seen "Alexander" abbreviated "Alexr" The John A. Martin that I have is sometimes listed as "John A. A. Martin" in the papers of Frank Moseley, deceased Methodist minister from Eutaw, AL and related to the Martins of Greene and Hale Counties. The John A. Martin,6 May 1842- 6 March 1908, who married Jessie Lide has the same DOB/DOD as does the John A. A. Martin, son of William S. Martin/Susannah Hutchinson Elliott. He also lists POB of his parents as SC and AL which match the folks above. Both John A and Jessie Lide Martin are buried in the Marion Cemetery, Marion, AL. Her parents, uncles and children and some siblings also appear in that cemetery. Here is the URL for the Marion Cemetery http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/9365/mrnctryx.html.Here is the URL for "Dr. Judy" that has other Perry Co., AL cemeteries that might have Lide family http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/9365/index.html. Now back to John A. Martin or John A.A. Martin. I and other members of the James Martin of Wateree,SC line are trying to build evidence that the William Martin son of Andrew Martin son of James Martin of Wateree is William S. Martin, 1805? - 1891 of Havana, Greene(Hale) Co., AL. One of the trails that I am following is family names. William S. Martin's children's names reflect names that come from the families of Andrew Martin, 1759-1814 and John Elliott. John Elliott is known to be father of WSM's wife Susannah. The one name that is missing is "Andrew" If John A. A. Martin is "John Andrew Alexander Martin" this would fit the pattern. Andrew would be his paternal grandfather's name and "Alexander" would be his paternal grandmother's father's name. Children of John A. Martin and Jessie Lide show a connection with W.S. Martin family with some of their names. Andrew Martin, died intestate, his brother William's estate was divided among nephews and an adopted son,John, the youngest son of Andrew and brother of William. The confusion occurs in that neither William or John have a middle initial in the will. John can be identified as John F[ears] Martin because of adoption papers and other estate papers. William however has not been positively identified as the William S. Another connection if John A. is Alexander or possibly even Alexor is that the "S" in William S. Martin's name is "Seaborn or Sebron" Jane Roseborough, wife of Andrew Martin, has a brother who was born at sea.
LIDE information: Jesse H. Lide, father of Jessie Lide was listed in the 1860 Perry Co, AL census as a Steward of Judson College. Family name appears in census indexes as "Side" but given names are for Lide family. The Alabama Baptist prints that J.A. Martin and Jessie Lide were married 22 Nov 1876, by Rev. J.L. West. 1880 Scotts, Perry Co. AL census shows John A Martin and wife Jessie living with a Dr. DeYampert. Other members of the Lide family appear as trustees or other officers for Howard College, Marion, AL in census records and history of Samford University. The family was obviously very active in the Baptist churches of Perry Co. Hope this helps. Sorry for length. Terry
