Jim, you might contact Mr. Horace Rudisill, the Historian and professional Genealogist of the Darlington County Historical Society in Darlington, South Carolina. This old gentleman is a fantastic contact and is knowledgable regarding the Lide family as well as my Rowell's.
Hugh Lide, son of Major Robert Lide was my GGGGrandfather. His family was from the Darlington District in S. C. His Brother James and James's son Eli Hugh accompanied by a number of other old S.C. families moved to Carlowville, Alabama in 1835 (THE LIDES GO SOUTH...AND WEST). Hugh's son Robert Pugh Lide, my GGGranfather, was already in that area.
A great deal of work has been accomplished on the Lide family and you should be able to account for your family ties. I would surmise that there is a relation of your Hugh to Robert's son, Hugh, and consequently to Robert himself.
Good Luck
Burton
