I believe I'm the one who initially proved the connection of Robert Lide (d. 1724) to John, Thomas, Robert, Elizabeth Lide of SC.
The former Robert Lide's wife's name was Elizabeth.
He also bought James City Co. land along the Chickahominy when he bought the Charles City Co. land.
Robert's neighbors also included the Duke family, probably how son John married Sarah Duke ca. 1728/9. Her brother Mary m. John Crawford ca. 1730 and they went to SC with Lide brothers. John Crawford's grandmother was from Charles City Co, but her name unrecorded tho' the wedding was.
Have you seen Elizabeth Marston Duke's Charles City Co. will of 1729?
Found reference to a Capt. Robert Lide, master of ship Barbara which sailed between VA and England in the late 1660's.
Also found sale of land in "Ye Maine" formerly owned by a Ro. Lide prior to 1690.
I've found the spellings of Lide, Lyde, Loyde in family and land records. In the family Bible belonging to Robert Lide, b. 1734, there is the spelling "Loyde" on the inside cover, also when he joined Baptist Church in SC. Note that John Lide's will includes both Lide and Loyde spelling.
Look up the info posted by Ronda Byers on July 17, 2004 on Nicholas Lide of Lynn, Mass. He was son of Edward and Jane (Lide) Browne of Inkburrow, Worchestershire, Eng. Jane Lide Browne was the daughter of a Thomas Lide. Her son Nicholas named children John, Joseph, Sarah, Cornelius, Josiah, and Elizabeth. Could indicate some relationship to Cornelius Lyde, merchant of Bristol. I've also seen one referrence to another Cornelius Lyde, merchant of London, earlier in the 1600s.
Elizabeth Lide Tayloe was born a Gwynn. Father David Gwynn's will also names a brother in Wales. Elizabeth's father was neighbor in James City Co. to Thomas Marston, father of Elizabeth Marston Duke.
I'm informed that some of these voyages back and forth to England was a way to get land and not always the date of first entry.
Any idea what happened to John Lide's widow Sarah after she sold the NC homestead? Remarried? Back to VA?
Would be very helpful to discover maiden names of Robert Lide's wife Elizabeth, Col. Henry Duke's wife Elizabeth, Thomas Marston's parents (Thomas Marston & Elizabeth Marvell?), Thomas Marston's wife (Rebecca Green, dau. of Thomas and Martha Filmer Green?)
Would love to contact directly at SingeliSS@aol.com
