Hi,

I descend directly from Robert Lide. The Lides came to VA from the UK in 1683 and a generation later settled in the Welsh Neck of the Pee Dee River near Coward SC.
Lohyd and other derivitives are an earlier spelling of the family name, but because Welsh and Scots blow an "H" sound through their "O's, the pronunciation sounds like "Lide."

I do have a lot of information on the Lides and allied families and will post when I have some free time.

Paul
