Lides before 1740

Has anyone been able to push the Lide genealogy back from the three Lide brothers that arrived in the Cheraw district of SC in the 1740s (John, Thomas, and Robert). My source indicates that these boys were the son of a David Lloyd and Lowry Jones and that the boys moved to the Cheraw district with their maternal uncle John Crawford. The source for some of this infomation is the "History of the Old Cheraws" by Gregg. However, I do not see a direct connection to David Lloyd in the book by Gregg and I think the connection to David Lloyd of Roanoke VA was made via Crawford. My source is "Llhuyd, Loyd, Lloyd, Lide" by Mildred Caroline Fair with much of the information based on the research of Miss Jane Lide. Unfortunately the sources of the connection from the brothers Lide to David Lloyd is not spelled out. Roderick Lide has told me there is a will of John Lide with three sons (John, Thomas, Robert) for which the dates match up well. This John Lide was from James City, VA. Can anyone provide more information here? I have found a reference to a Robert Lide land transaction for 400 acres in James City Co on June 1714. Could this be the father or sibling of John Lide. Does anyone else have info on early VA Lide. The source for the above is "Cavaliers and Pioneers, Vol III", patent book 10, pg 145. I also found a reference to a much earlier Richard Lide in Patent Book 1 of this same series.
