By a weird twist of fate (used Exite instead of my normal AltaVista due to problems), I found the following:

Robert Lide

This is my third try at saying "this is my first posting"!

I am seeking information on the parents, ancestors, birth, etc. re:
Robert Lide (Loyd, Loyde, Lloyd, Lyde), whose will was proved in Charles
City Co., Va. in 1724; purchased land in James City Co., Va. in 1687 and
1714. He and wife, Elizabeth (?) had son, John, and daughter, Sarah

John's will proved in 1742, Bertie Co., NC. He and wife, Sarah Duke, had
children: Capt. John Lide (b.1730); Col. Thomas Lide (b. 1732); Major
Robert Lide (b. 1734); and a daughter, Elizabeth Lide.

The children, John, Thomas, Robert and Elizabeth came to and grew up in
the Darlington District of South Carolina.

All of foregoing has been documented, and seems to disprove "Gregg" and
his contention that these children's parents were David Lide and Ann
Crawford of Roanoke, Va., with David coming from Pa.

Thanks, John Wilkie
