I gave the wrong book in an earlier post - the Lightner blurb is in the 1896 History of the Juniata Valley. There is a bio of one of their grandsons, Samuel Lightner (a son of Jacob Lightner and Susanna Sheibley) - as he was alive at the time of the book's writing, it is presumed that he supplied the information about his grandparents, Matthias and Eve.
From page 1074:
"The Lightner family is of German origin. Mr. Lightner's grandparents, Matthias and Eve Lightner, were natives of the fatherland, and early settlers of Perry county (note: Perry county, Pa before 1820 was Cumberland county, Pa). It is supposed that they resided in what is now Spring township. They had seven children, all of whom are deceased. Two of their sons, Loudy and Michael, lived in Ohio; two, Adam and Matthias Jr. in Huntingdon county, Pa; and the remaining two, Jacob and Henry, spent their lives in Tyrone township. The seventh child was a daughter, who died young, and whose remains, with those of her parents, repose in the Power graveyard, Tyrone township."
Note: Loudy's christened name was Ludwig (Loudy was a nickname). He and his brother Michael moved to Ohio sometime in the 1820's and are found in the 1830, etc Ohio censuses. All there ever were in Matthias and Eve's family were the 6 boys and the sole daughter who died young.
On page 1236 of the same book, there is further mention of Mathias and Eve, in a bio of David P. Lightner, son of Sterrett and Elizabeth Sheibley Lightner "David P. Lightner's paternal great-grandfather (note: this is Mathias) was born in Germany, and at an early date, emigrated with two brothers to America, and lived in Pennsylvania."
As you will note, the above bio makes mention of 2 brothers of Mathias. They don't appear to have settled in the same area as Mathias, so perhaps one went to Virginia or perhaps these are the Lightners in Lancaster county - someone else's branches - mine is Mathias and Eve.
