I have some information on Dr. James G. Lightner and I trust that most of the information is accurate. Dr. James G. Lightner was born in 1799 and died in 1882. He was one of ten children born to William and Ester (Brenneman) Lightner. William and Ester were married July 25, 1798. Dr. Lightner's grandfather, John William Lightner ( b 1732 , D 1806)was the 3rd son of Nathaniel (b 1709, D 1782) and Margaret (Rutter) Lightner. Nathaniel and Margaret had 19 children in total. Nathaniel was one of 9 children born to John Adam (died 1736) and Maudlin Leitner who came from Germany in 1710. At some point, they changed the spelling of the name to Lightner. Dr. Lightner and his wife Elizabeth (Cromwell) Lightner were married on May 8, 1827 and had 11 children one of which was my grandfather David S. Lightner. Dr Lightner opened his office in 1821 and remained until 1853 in Shirleysburg, Pa. He was the third physician on record following a Dr. Loughran and a Dr. Scott.
