Copies of Civil War Pension Papers for Nathaniel K Lightner sheds additional information about Nathaniel K Lightner and his family. Pension papers # 193,849, in which I sent for in February 1985 and received, April 1985.

Nathaniel lists his wife as Lucinda Barker, and marriage date of 4 November 1866 at Nineveh, Greene County, Pa., by Rev. Geo S Adams.

Nathaniel and Lucinda's children:
Q B Lightner, birth 25 March 1869
L J Lightner, b 27 June 1872
E H Lightner, b 15 October 1875
Ruth Ina Lightner, b 4 March 1878

There were 2 listings of children, and the other report lists children as Quincy B., John L., Edward H., and Ruth Ina Lightner.

Within the Civil War Pension Papers is a copy of Nathaniel K. Lightner's Certificate of Death, issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Heath, Bureau of Vital Statistics, stamped with the U.S. Pension Office,
18 August 1919. This report gives date of death as 18 April 1919, in Center Township, Greene County, Pa. It lists his DOB as 25 December 1840. His Father is listed as HENRY LIGHTNER who was born in Penna. and Mother is listed as Margarette Lig, who was born in Penna., with info given by Mrs. N.K. Lightner of Woodruff, Pa. Burial at the Rosemont Cemetery, 20 April 1919.

Nathaniel K Lightner was a Private in Co. K. 16th Regiment Pa Calvery and was listed at 5'9.5" tall, fair complexion, dark hair and hazel eyes. His records indicate tht he was enrolled 18 August 1862 and in the line of duty at or near Turkey Run, Virginia or or about March 1864 was taken with Measles, sent to the Corps Hospital from thence to Wash D.C. to Lincoln Hospital. He was discharged August 1865 at Washington D. C. at age 41.

Another source, "The Tenmile Country and Its Pioneer Families" on page 443 under the children of Samuel Stewart, lists a daughter, Mary Margaret Stewart married, HENRY LIGHTNER.

The 1850 and 1850 census (Greene County, Pa) listing for Samuel and Amy Stewart lists a John Lightner age 9 and then 19 living within the household. There is a listing of a Henry and Nathaniel LITENER within another LITENER's household on the 1850 census, but without a listing of Mary Margaret Stewart Lightner.

Mary Margaret Stewart Lightner is a sister of my GGGreat
Grandmother, Catherine Stewart Gregg.

** My note, I believe Nathaniel's Certificate of Death has the wrong maiden name for Nathaniel's mother, and that it should read, STEWART. Lucinda Lightner of Holbrook, Pa who was last paid at the rate of $30. per month, was dropped as a pensioner because of death, 31 August 1926.
