Found the following while going through some papers belonging to my stepfather's late wife. They had no children, but perhaps it will be of use to some Like researcher.

John Like - born 4-26-1829 - Batavia, NY. Died 1901. Of Dutch (Holland) heritage. Well to do cabinet maker. From discharge papers: Private in Capt Warner Young's Company, 8th Regiment of Veteran Reserve Corps Volunteer who was installed the 22nd day of Aug 1862 to serve 3 years or during the war, is hereby discharged this 1st day of July 1865 (Camp Douglas, Ill.) 5ft 7 1/2in, light complexion, blue eyes, brown hair.

Married Anna White on July 4,1867. (Ed. Appears as if the marriage took place in the area of Albany, NY - not clear from notes.) Moved to Jeneses (sp?) IL. 1882 moved to farm 3 miles east of Alexandria, So Dak, and to town in 1893. 4 children:

Charles Grant Like b 9-17-1869, Geneses, IL
May Evelyn b 1871 or 1872
Grace b 2-1-1876
Maude Jessie b 8-19-1883 dec 1/23/1973

I know Maude Jessie married Clarke H. Stillwell. One known child, Dorothy Fay, b 2-24-1914 in So Dak.

All of these notes, including some additional information on Anna White, were handwritten on a piece of notebook paper. Don't know who wrote it or when.
