Hi Terry;

04Aug1860, Harrison Township, Knox County, IN, Post office: Lovely Dale, Page 1042 of the Federal census. First entry: Home/Family (562/562) is Nancy Guldman 57, Joseph 24, George 23 and Malinda 18. The next farm is the Cooper farm and then Moses Like's farm (564/564). The census taker would write down the names of the families in the order in which he encountered them. Therefore, the Guldman's lived two farms down from Moses. The possible misspelling could be the census taker and/or the county clerk who wrote out the marriage certificate. It happened all the time. Put an Anglo-American to writing German names and mistakes will happen.
Interestingly enough, Elizabeth McArthur (29) appears to be living on Moses' farm in 1870 as you still have the Cooper family next door. Nancy Like and Jacob Like are living with her. William Like died within a year of his birth. Elizabeth Gouldman Like would have been more like 39.

Ron
