Likens/Likins, Whinrey and related families

Here is some of the information that I have on the Likins, Whinrey and related families in Greene and Lawrence Counties, Missouri. This is based on a variety of sources from primary to oral accounts. Incomplete references are listed in parentheses.

Am not kin but interested in their involvement in the milling business, they operated the Likins Whinrey Mill on the Sac River, Center Township, Greene County; "Turnback/Britton" mill on Turnback Creek, Lawrence County , Likins Brothers Mill, Ash Grove as well as mills in McDonald, Newton, Cedar, Dade and Stone Counties.

Would like to find out about folks who worked at any of the Likins-Whinrey mills or annectdotes about them. There is information in the Ash Grove Commonwealth, will try to share that as time permits. Am also interested in the formation of the rural communities in northwestern Greene County and northeastern Lawrence County since many who settled there came from Greene County, Tennessee, e.g. Likins, Whinrey, Johnson, Marsh, Squibb, Yeakley, Redfern, Grey, Adams, Leeper.

Any comments, corrections or additions would be appreciated. I do have much more information and am willing to share it. The final product will be published in a journal but also contributed to websites as well as regional libraries--this is a labor of love not for profit.

I want to thank everyone contributes to this and other listservs, your enthusiasm and generosity are wonderful.

Kerry McGrath

[ Note There are conundrums the ancestry of William's wives. First, there are two Sarah Squibbs who were first cousins and both were born in 1794. I do not have primary documentation that William Jr. married the daughter of John Squibb and Sarah Payne Squibb. Second, ancestry of Rachel Horn is not clear.
