Dear Cousin Denise:Thank you for your wonderful e-mail response.I look forward to speaking with you and exchanging information. I have a photo of Alice Linam and three of her siblings that may include your grandfather or g-grandfather.I also have a photo of Israel Mackenize Linam in his Civil War uniform, holding a musket. He has a large Masonic emblem around his neck in the photo.I contacted the Masonic Lodge in Lawrence Co. and inquired if they had any records from the Civil War era but didn't find anything. You may want to contact Larry Griffin, get his e-mail from the query board of the Lawrence Co. Tenn. GenWeb site.I have about 600-700 pages about the Linams.I'm very interested to learn anything you have about Israel Mackenzie Linam. The House he built, the store/saloon he operated, etc.Did your grandfather ever mention hearing stories about Mack deserting the Confederate Army and moving to Cairo, Illinois and joining and fighting in the Union Army?I also understand he was wounded.Mack proudly displayed the photo of himself in his military uniform for years, over the mantel of his house.I cannot imagine that he would have displayed this if it depicted him in a Confederate Uniform since his Confederate records indicate that he deserted. It has to show him in a Union uniform.I look forward to corresponding with you.Best regards. Your cousin, Doug Brooks
