Dear Lingo Listers: I live fairly close to College Mound and I have never found S. S. Lingo in either Lingo cemeteries so I will try and check out College Mound, but it will take a couple of months, so be patient. I do not descend from S. S. Lingo but do descend from James Lingo and Sarah Smith. Isn't it strange that both James and his son S. S. were both married to girls named Sarah Smith.
Incidently James and his first wife had about 3 children and the Judge S. S. Lingo was one of them and Mary. I descend from the second wife. Judge S. S. Lingo was quite notable in his day and it has upset me that there is no tombstone for him that I can find. So College Mound might be the answer.
In the Lingo Family Cemetery (not in Lingo town but out on the highway) there are two graves in the center of the cemetery with just bricks and some broken concrete laid on the graves. Does any one know who these graves belong to?
I was wondering if one might be the grave of James Stuart Lingo since he d. in Macon County. Does anyone know? If I ever find James S. Lingo I will put a stone up for him.
Laurana Holman Schamma at Thanks
