JW is actually E.W. LINGO. I am pretty well convinced he was E. Wesley LINGO that first married to Nancy C. SMITH in 1877.

I thought for a long time that they married in Lawrence County AR, Walnut Ridge area, where Nancy was born to Christiana McLAIN SMITH and James SMITH (see Christeny SMITH widow on 1880 census in Lawrence County AR) ...but I found a marriage record for her in Cass Co TX in 1877. Cass also called Davis Co. They were definitely in Lawrence Co AR in 1880 and again in 1883 ..where I have a land record found in the Court House in Walnut Ridge. They are selling their land after a CHristmas Day 1883 shooting involving the spouse of Nancy's sister, Perlina Ann Smith. She was the granddaughter of my ggg grandfather Charles McLAIN and Perlina A. Unknown.

Perlina Ann, called Pulina or Polina Anna, married 1879 to John Thomas TEWELL and on Christmas day 1883, John Thomas TEWELL and a Lewis CISSELL got into an argument over a horse while at a CHristmas dance in Lawrence County. (story told to me by TEWELL desdendants, and I found court records of the trial) Perlina / Polina Anna's brother Charley SMITH was present and when CISSELL pulled a gun on TEWELL< Charley SMITH evidently jumped to defend his brother in law and shot Lewis CISSELL to death.

Following the shooting, the SMITH and LINGO and TEWELL family began selling land ...and my ggg grandfather Charles McLAIN's son Squire McLAIN b 1842 Weakley Co TN who was married to Melinda Caroline HARDIN ...bought some of the land. Nancy C.SMITH and her spouse E. Wesley LINGO sold their land, as heirs of Christeny SMITH ..who must have died after the 1880 densus and before the shooting. (Note John Thomas TEWELL's mother was Delia Ann CISSELL and her sister Rosa CISSELL was married to a SHARUM / SHRUM...families out of KY to Indiana and apparently to Arkansas by 1883)

Nancy C. SMITH and E.Wesley LINGO had a son on the 1880 census ..James LINGO born about 1878. I would like to know what happened to him. But when I found E.W. LINGO and 2nd wife Margaret on the 1900 census, Panola TX, James is not in the household, but her children by her previous marriage are in the house.

I believe that Nancy and E.Wesley LINGO may have divorced or possibly just left and went to Texas again after the shooting ...where she could have died prior to 1900 when E.W. is married to the former Margaret HUMPHRIES GRAVES or GRAVIS ...and her two children are in their 1900 household in Panola, TX, shown as E.W.'s step son and step daughter.

I believe that back in Lawrence Co AR there are other LINGO allied surnames / families that figure somehow into that line and my allied families in Lawrence Co Arkansas. TILLMAN is one of the surnames. I think that a Mary A. McLAIN born about 1855 AR married a J.C. TILLMAN ..but no proof it is Mary A. McLAIN, who is another granddaughter of CHarles McLAIN ..born to his son David W. McLAIN and SUsan E. MULLINS / MULLEN before David died. Susan remarried William H. FLETCHER (Loose probate records for Charles McLAIN who died 1869) Mary was of marriage age by the 1870 census and I can't find her for sure.

The POINDEXTER and AGEE lines also figure into my genealogy. Charles MdLAIN's son John Henry McLAIN married 1857 to Sarah Catherine AGEE (on Ambrose AMbers AGEE and Elizabeth LUSK line) and Sarah's brother was Mical H. or Michael H. AGEE who married 1st to Margaret BALLARD ...and apparently 2nd to Martha E.V.. Two of their daughters married POINDEXTERs. Michl's / Michael's deaf and dumb son William H. AGEE lived in 1910 in the Newport, Jackson Co AR household of my great grandparents WIlliam David McLAIN and 2nd wife Clara COOPER. William H. AGEE was W.D. McLAIN's uncle ..a brother to McLAIN's mother Sarah Catherine AGEE. (who has a pair of stained glass windows in her memory in Newport's First Christian Church in the old downtown area)

I'm interested in discovering more of the ties and marriages and descendants on my McLAIN line, re AGEE, SMITH, POINDEXTER, TILLMAN, LINGO, HARDIN, TEWELL and more that lived in and near WAlnut Ridge, AR.

I believe that E. Wesley LINGO could be Elmer Wesley LINGO b about 1853 TN to Jonathan W. LINGO b 1825-1830 TN and Martha UNKNOWN b about 1826 TN, died 1868-1870 MO, and I find their children as: James Dickson 1848
TN; Alonzo 1850 TN; Elmer Wesley 1853 TN; Martha or Melissa 1856 MO; Nancy E. 1862 MO; Jonathan 1865 MO; and Barbara P. 1868 MO.

Possible parents for Jonathan W. LINGO are Unknown father LINGO and mother named Priscella UNKNOWN b about 1790 SC.
I have some notes but may have arrived at wrong conclusions as to ancestors on the line. Hope to hear from anyone researching any of these people.

Thanks!
