I believe that many of the Linns in Ayrshire-Lanarkshire and more particularly from the Dalry area were long gone from Scotland before Dalry was even well established as a town.

There seem to be none left there today. My sister visited Dalry earlier this year and found none in evidence, although the name is remembered by some.
