Sue's g-g-g-grandfather, Jacob Lipman, b. in 1770's, probably in London; m. Sarah Solomons at "The Great Synagogue" (London) 11/30/1803 (per Mormon site), came to USA around 1807; left Charleston, SC about 1819, for Phila., PA to become first Rabbi at Cong. Rodeph Shalom. May have had a brother, Abraham, who also shows in Charleston. Don't know if any parents, siblings, kids remained in England - our only info is re children / grandchildren etc in US. A number of sons and/or grandsons were active performers and owners of circus's, mostly Cincinnati & mid-west.
Does any of this resonate with your Lipmans??? Other than marriage & Phila career, we know little, and are hungry for more.
