In Colonial Families of Delaware Vol 2 by F. Edward Wright is the following:
Joseph Hales of Duck Creek d. leaving a will dated 27 June 1754.In his Will he mentioned sisters Martha Clark, Barthia Nock, Rachel Liston; son in law Richard Holliday; Joseph Jenkins, son of Jabez; friend William Hammans; Robert Holiday, Hannah Jenkins, Susanna Hammans, Richard Holiday, May Holiday, Thomas Hammons
Could the 1754 Rachel Liston be the wife of John Liston, son of Morris Liston?
Per Deed Book X, Vol. 1, pages 297-300, dated 10 December 1764, Indenture listing per Edmund Liston’s 1760 Will, the appraisal of the land given to Thomas, Ebenezer and Abraham and 1/5 share value given and paid to brother Joseph Liston and sister Sarah Jones, wife of Ebenezer Jones. Also named are: Thomas Liston and Ann his wife, Ebenezer Liston and Susannah his wife, Abraham Liston (no wife listed). The witnesses to the deed are JOHN LISTON AND ELIZABETH HIS WIFE.
Could this 1764 John Liston be the grandson of Morris Liston, a cousin to these children of Edmund Sr.
Children of Morris Liston and Jane Milcome Greaves:
Daughter Liston and Unknown Russell, she born 1686
Ruth Russell, she born 1705-1708
Rachel Russell, she born 1705-1708
Jane Liston (per memorandum to her mother’s will)
John Liston and Rachel Hale (unconfirmed), he born 1688-1690
John Liston and Elizabeth (unconfirmed), he born ca 1715-1725
Edmund Liston and Sarah Richardson, he born 1694
Edmund Liston and Rachel Farsons, he born ca 1718
Thomas Liston and 1st Ann 2nd Susanna
Ebenezer Liston and Susanna, he born 1733
Abraham Liston and Elizabeth Redman
Joseph Liston and Mary Blackshear, he born ca 1737
Sarah Liston and Ebenezer Jones
Sarah Liston and Unknown Williams (unconfirmed)
Note:
Morris Liston intended his sons to have their inheritance’s at age 21.
This is why John is not mentioned in his mother’s will, he turned 21 between 1709 and 1712 and had already gotten his plantation as given him in his fathers will.
Morris also left instructions that if either of his sons should die without sons then if they had daughters, the daughters of the one son were to sell at half value the land of their father back to the son’s of their uncle.
.
Note:
Liston Daughter, mother of Russell granddaughters must have been born 1686 as Morris and Jane were married 1685 and in 1708 this daughter would have been 22 years of age.
John Liston was under 21 in 1708 but had received his land before January 1711/12 so his birth would have been 1688-1690.
We know Edmund was 14 as he was born 1694 and so there must be an orphan court record for him and any other sisters.
