I bought the book "Men With Custer" and found the following information for my great great great uncle. Does anyone have any other information about him or Ellen Flynn who he married? Thanks
According to a book entitled "Men With Custer: - Biographies of the 7th Cavalry" edited by Ronald H. Nichols and Introduction by Joseph Sills, Jr.:
KELLEY, PATRICK (Edward H. Kelly)
Rank: Private Born: 1841, County Mayo, Ireland
Assign: Company I Died: June 25, 1876, Little Big Horn
LBH: With Custer's column - killed
Enlisted from September 13, 1866, to September 13, 1871, in Company I, 7th Cavalry. Second enlistment on September 13, 1871, at age 30, in Bagdad, KY, by Lieutenant Frank Gibson. Sentenced to dishonorable discharge and confinement at hard labor in a military prison for three years, wearing a ball and chain weighing 12 pounds, for desertion on June 10, 1873, at Breckenridge, MN. Apprehended in St. Paul on June 14, 1873. On unanimous recommendation of the court the sentence was remitted, he was released from confinement and restored to duty, per GCMO 79, Dept. of Dakota, St. Paul, November 25, 1874. Married Ellen Flynn on March 25, 1873, in Louisville. Ellen had two children by a previous marriage: Susan (April 2, 1862) and Ellen (December 15, 1869). He had gray eyes, sandy hair, fair complexion and was 5'5" tall. Listed as Pat'k Kelley on the battle monument. Maternal grandfather of Mrs. A. Irvine, 412 Eighth St., Bismark, ND. His widow filed application for pension on March 20, 1877, and received $8 per month until dropped from the rolls on March 4, 1881.
