Willard Littlefield 1900 Illinois
This was my maternal grandfather. He was born in Brimfield, IL (Brimfield Obit listing). He married Mahala Alee Crow in TX while he was in the service. I found a TX Census Report for 1920 with their names and no children. They had 3 girls: Verla Mae (12/1920); N. Doris (1922) and Audrey Ruth (05/1926). He died in Rockford, IL on June 23, 1927 (date from back of one of 9 photos, supported by burial date). My grandmother and mother both said his truck stalled on train tracks and was hit by a train near a Standard Oil Co. location. I’ve also found a listing from Belvidere (IL) Cemetery showing his birth/death dates, burial date (June 30) and who handled the funeral and that Grandmother received the WWI flag he was awarded.
Our grandmother told a cousin that his parents’ names were Howard and Mary. I cannot find any Census reports for 1900 or 1910 that bear this out. I found a 1900 CR for Oscar and Cora in Brimfield and their youngest son was Willard (age 1). The older brother and sister were Adelbert and Mary E. Then I hit a blank wall. I could not find a 1910 CR on Willard, but thought maybe none were filled out for servicemen.
I have emailed the Rockford Register Star (newspaper) requesting a copy of the story and obituary on him. I suspect we may have to travel there to find the Microfiche if it hasn’t been converted to the electronic database.
If any “cousins” exist that can be of help, my cousin and I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Carolyn
