Hi--I have been doing some research on the Lobb family in the past few weeks and I think I have finally figured out which William is "yours."
I'm sure that by now you know that there were at least three brothers William, Reuben, and Chapman who migrated to Kentucky from Spotsylvania, VA around 1793.They were the sons of James Lobb and Elizabeth Waite. Both Reuben and William had sons named William born about the same time.It was very confusing to me which one stayed in Kentucky and which one moved to Illinois sometime between 1830 & 1836.
The William who stayed in Kentucky in Hart County seems very probably to be the son of Reuben. He was born about 1812-14 and married Sarah (Willock?).We know that Reuben had a son named William and also had Richard, James, John, Elizabeth, Nancy, and Sally/Sarah. (These children are named in a lawsuit brought by Chapman in 1824 against the heirs of Reuben.)
William, who stayed in Kentucky named his children:John, Nancy, Mary, James, Esther, William, & R.W.
These names seem to follow the names of his siblings.
William Sr. was born about 1774 and married Elizabeth Lewis on 2/27/1808 in Lincoln Co., KY.In 1810 he shows on the census in Gerrard County. He then has moved to Casey Co for the 1820 census, and is in Mercer County for the 1830 & 1840 census.I believe he may have died after this date as I no longer find him listed anywhere.
William Lobb Jr shows in the 1830 census in Adair--he is still single at the time of the census so his marriage to Annis happened after the census. Then he shows in the 1840 & 1850 census of Menard Co., IL and Hancock, IL census respectivly.Anna seems to be a widow by 1860 as she is now the head of household with James, William, Maria/Mary, Susanna, Noah, and Pleasant.
Hope this information helps.Let me know your thoughts or any questions.thanks, Ginger
