Hi Lorrie and Kathy,
I'm drafting a thesis on Lock(e)s within, southerly and westerly of Norwich, Norfolk County, England during 16th to mid 19th century'.
I don't live in Norfolk, but some of my ancestors lived in the area concerned, which prompted my research thesis. As a by-product, I've identified many other Lock(e)s who are most likely not my direct ancestors, but the information may be useful to other researchers when I publish.
You may be aware of the following information, but I'll share it with you anyway, in advance of my publication. My thesis contains many assumptions and speculations, but a trip to Norwich would be needed, aimed to 'prove' them or otherwise, by looking at paper and microfilm/fiche parish records and archdeacon and bishop's transcripts.
A Latter Day Saints (LDS) record shows John Box b1775 married c1800 in Necton (between Swaffham and East Dereham), Norfolk to Mary b1780 in Necton, and they had a son Henry Box b1821 in Shouldham (W of Swaffham). Another LDS record shows Mary Lock baptised 16/5/1781 in Necton to Francis Lock assumed born c1757 and Elizabeth.
A further LDS record shows Francis Lock baptised 19/12/1732 in St Thomas, Wymondham (SW of East Dereham), Norfolk to Francis Lock assumed born c1708 and Catharine. Yet another record shows Francis Lock baptised 22/3/1688 (to which parents?) in St Stephen, Norwich, Norfolk to Phineas Lock assumed born c1664 and Deborah.
Apart from Mary's father (F) being named Francis, I'm speculating Mary's direct ancestors were possibly also named Francis Lock i.e. grandfather (GF) Francis baptised 19/12/1732 in St Thomas, Wymondham (who did he marry?), great grandfather (GGF) Francis born c1708 (where?) who married Catharine, and GGGF Francis baptised 22/3/1688 in St Stephen, Norwich (son of Phineas Lock and brother of Mary Lock baptised 10/8/1691 in St Stephen). Also, GGGGF Phineas Lock assumed born c1664 (who were his parents?) who married Deborah.
Hopefully, Lorrie, the above will provide you with some avenues to explore.
Ken Lock b1945 in Paddock Wood (near Royal Tunbridge Wells), County of Kent, England
