I think the marriage location (seat of Gov. Turner in Warren County) must have been because the Gov. and Judge Spruce McCay were friends or political associates.
Based on the items mentioned in his will, Richard was probably a farmer or plantation owner. He might also have been in the family freight hauling business.
Richard Locke owned land in Tennessee that was to be sold after he died. His son George might have chosen to buy it for himself. If not that, a lot of Rowan County families moved to TN.
The 1900 Census shows "Lee" as R. L., and 1910 gives his name as Robert L.
