LOCKHARD / Lockhart's of Northampton Co., PA pre-1800
I believe that the Lockhard's/Lockhart's of Northampton Co., PA buried in the Scot-Irish Presbyterian cemetery at Lower Mt. Bethel may be linked to my MOODY-McQuiston/McCuiston/Denny and other's ydna family that left PA for NC, TN, KY and other areas.
In the McQuiston book by Leona B. McQuiston/McCuiston, there are old deed records and marriages etc. which make note of Lockhart's, Moody's, McQuiston's, Denny's (sometimes seen spelled as DENNIS I believe), who may all be linked to these early LOCKHART's buried in the above mentioned cemetery.
My ydna Moody family came to America from No. Ireland (presumed from Co. Londonderry) with the McQuiston family and many others around c1735 landing at New Castle, DE which as anyone who has looked at a map will notice is on the Delaware River inlet from the Atlantic Ocean that leads up towards PA, NJ, MD and of course DE.
So this is why so many of our relatives are scattered around these areas.
Most of our Ydna Moody family came to PA 1st and then filtered down South into Guilford Co., NC and TN, and KY and some went over to OH and MO and IL and out to OK etc.
Some must have gone North towards New England and even into Canada.
The LOCKHARD's (as the name is spelled from the old cemetery records mentioned above)
are David LOCKHARD [Lockhart?] who d. Mar 25, 1813 at age 88 (so born c1725).
Zachariah Lockhard b. 1798 d. 1861
His wife Hannah b.1803 d. 1881.
Josiah son of Zach. b. 18?2 d. 1848
Ann Lockhard b. 1773 d. 1850
Samuel Lockhard b. 1773 d. 1850
Rachel wife of Samuel b. 1776 d. 1841
Jane wife of Ephraim Lockhard d. 1869 at age 58 yrs.
Alexander Lockhard d. 1804 at age 59 (so b. c1745 poss. son of David above).
David Lockhard d. Dec. 1788 age 28 yrs. (b.c1760 poss. son of David b. c1725)
Also buried in this same cemetery is an Adam MOODY and wife Anna BOYD and a believed son of theirs named James Moody who died at age 25. Adam Moody was b.c1714 and came over from Nor. Ireland with a group of other Ulster-Scots and settled in this area of Northampton Co., PA.
His son Robert MOODY married into the HUTCHISON/Hutchinson family and removed to Beaver Co., PA.
I am trying to find out if a William LOCKHART of Guilford Co., NC who was living there prior to 1820, has any links or ties to this early batch of Scot-Irish in PA that links to my own family along with so many other names found in these areas. This Wm. LOCKHART of NC may have ties to the MOODY family which are part of my ydna family and who I am now thinking may have ties to that Adam MOODY buried in Northampton Co., PA as well.
Thank you for any help on these families.
