Most interesting. He looks as if he could well be the 'head' of the LOCKYER/NIBBS family who are still around today.
You rightly draw attention to the naming conventions of the day.The thing is I am looking for an alleged half-brother, George LOCKYER, to other NIBBS born hereabouts. I had surmised that George was more likely to have been a step brother but all evidence points the other way.I do have details of a Mary married to a NIBBS.
Of interest there is a George LOCKYER on the 1881 census aged 65 who I had conjectured is the one with the NIBBS connection and, give or take a year or two, he might just be the one you have found.
If you by any chance have access to the Alverstoke or Forton Parish Records and could help, I would be very interested in pursuing further.
