Hello Helen
Sorry but my emails wouldn't go through to your address.
Thanks for the Streeting info. I have added it to my Lockyer File.
According to my info, Edward was appointed Head Shepherd and Overseer of Gostwyck, with over 75000 sheep under his supervision. Dangar had divided Gostwyck into 5 divisions and John, William, Robert and Andrew all worked the station in various capacities. Shearing was in October and November. Some shearers were local, others came in from sheds in Queensland and Western NSW.
By 1875 Edward and Mary Ann had repaid their debt to Dangar (for their passage) and they had saved enough to buy their own land. Edward and his boys each purchased a section of adjoining land until they had a holding of 560 acres.
Edward died on 24 Jan 1881 from dysentary, at Mihi Creek near Armidale.1909-1913 Mary Ann went to live with Susannah and George in Armidale, then she went to John and Emily at Mihi.
Mary Ann Lockyer died in 1913, aged 92 years.
If you can fill in any gaps or add anything to my info, it would be much appreciated.
In an earlier message you mentioned that Edward and Mary had 12 children. Could you please send me a list of their names and any relevant dates, so I can cross-check against my info - I only have a record of 11, with missing dates. Thanks. [email protected]
