I believe, but cannot prove, that John and James Loftus were brothers. The reason I think so is that they lived next door to each other, and Loftus doesn't seem to be a common enough name for that to be a coincidence.
I found them in the 1910 census. There were four Loftus families in East Windsor.
James was 53, had been married 29 years to Elizabeth.James was born in Ireland and came here in 1882.Elizabeth was born in CT.Her parents MAY have been born in Germany, but the census is illegible there, so I can't be sure.Elizabeth had had 11 children, ten of whom were still living.Living with them were the following children: Frank 22, a laborer: Carl, 19, a chauffer; Lawrence, 23; Annie, 10; Rose, 9; Willie, 6; Teresa, 4.
Next door was John Loftus, 44, who had been married to Johannah Coleman who died in 1902.Their children were: Margaret, 20; Mary,14; Katherine, 11; John, 17, a clerk; and Thomas, 9.
Nearby were Antony Loftus and his family.Antony was a weaver in a woolen mill.
Also nearby, James, 23, married 6 years, also a weaver. His wife was Annie. She'd had 3 children all still living. They were: Thomas, 6; Leonard, 2; and Elinor, 2/12.
I'm conjecturing that Antony and James were sons of James and Elizabeth.
Johannah Coleman, who was John's(above)wife was the sister of my great grandfather.
Is the first James above your James?
