My grandfather, James Loggins born 1808, was the son of William Loggins, Jr., who was murdered when James and his three brothers were very young. William, Jr.'s father was William Loggins, one of the founders of Nashville, Tennessee. He came in with James Robertson and was one of the handful of settlers who built on the east bank of the Cumberland River in what is now Nashville. William's father was John who was born in Ireland. Some of John's children were reportedly also born in Ireland. I don't think William was as he was born in 1740-45. They lived around Rockbridge, Virginia.
James Loggins' mother was Priscilla (Hightower). They are shown in the Montgomery County (TN)censuses. How she hot along with the four youngsters I do not know. Beside James there was William, Thomas, and Littleton. Not Henry as I stated in an earlier posting. I had information that one of the boys name was Henry and the Henry Loggins in Choctaw County, Mississippi seemed to fit, but I have found that he was apparently the son of Reuben Loggins. There is a tie between the two William Loggins' and Reuben and Dixon Loggins in some of the Montgoemry County records. Apparently William Loggins, Jr. and Reuben and Dixon were cousins as Reuben and Dixon were apparently brothers and the sons of James Loggins, brother of William.
Littleton wound up in Waller County, Texas. William was a physician in Hickman County, Tennessee and Thomas was a farmer in Perry County, Tennessee. James was a farmer in Dickson County, Tennessee and he and his wife, Nancy Grimes, had ten cildren, one of which ws my granfather John Littleton. My father was John Boyd. My father, grandfather and great-granfather are all buried in the Loggins Cemetery about two miles north of Charlotte, Tennesse in Dickson County. James had land and he either sold or gave many of his children parcels. The home place I grew up on was 100 acres and a part of the original acerage. The cemetery is about a quarter mile from our old house on the adjacent farm.
