My great grandfather Alfred Loiselle,a school teacher in northern Manitoba, was, according to "Metis Families-A Genealogical Compendium", born in Chambly c1863 s/o Alfred and Philomene GAGNON.
From the Catholic Church Marriages for Marieville and Ste-Angele I find a marriage of an Alfred LOISELLE (s/o Antoine & Charlotte Vanaut of Chambly) and Philomene GAGNON (d/o Hubert & Marie Pelletier) on Nov 25, 1856, and from the April 4, 1881 Census I have found a Philomene Loiselle, widow, living in Ste-Cesaire with sons Alfred (age 19), therefore born in 1861 or 1862, and Ulderic and a daughter Anna. In 1901 Philomene and Rose Anna, a school teacher, are living alone in L'Ange-Gardien.
Alfred LOISELLE turns up in the 1891 Census in Marquette Manitoba married to Angele OUELLETTE. In the 1901 Census his birth date of Feb 1, 1862 is given and I can document the decedents from here.
The problem I have is definitively linking the Alfred in 1881 Ste-Cesaire with that in 1891 Marquette.
A second problem regards Antoine Loiselle. In the Catholic Church Marriages for St Jean Baptiste de Rouville there is a marriage of Anotine LOYSELLE of Chambly (s/o J. Baptiste & Francoise Desmarais of Ste-Charles) and Charlotte JARED (d/o Louis & Therese Blanchard).
I can find almost no Vanaut sirnames when I conduct a search and wonder if this might be a typo for Jared
ie. V(J)an(r)a(e)ut(d) e-a.
Does anyone have a suggestions?
Where can I find an copy of the original entry?
I have yet to search the records for Chambly for LOISELLE
