My mother is a Longsdorf from a family that came to Philadelphia from Mt. Carmel, PA in 1913. We have traced the family back to the late 1700's and a John Longsdorf of Cumberland County. His father was one of two sons of Daniel Langsdorff (later changed to Longsdorf). I'm looking for help in filling in the gaps between John and his grandfather Daniel.
We believe 3 brothers (Daniel, Henreich [Henry] and John C. Langsdorff) emigrated aboard the ship Edinburgh out of Rotterdam, landing in Phila on 9/30/1754. They settled in Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County, PA under a land grant from the son of William Penn. The main line of what we have determined from there is as follows:
Daniel Langsdorff had 2 sons. One son's child was Rev Jeremiah M. Longsdorf. The second son had a child named John.
John Longsdorf had 3 children: 2 unmarried daughters (Dilly and Bertha), and one son, Henry C.
Henry C. Longsdorf married Rebecca Zartman in 1863 and they had 2 sons, both ministers in the Evangelical Congreational Church. One son, Rev Daniel P. Longsdorf (1862-1942), married Lillian Good in 1902 and had two sons, Kenneth (1905) and Rev William T. (1918-1985). The other son was Francis S. Longsdorf.
Rev Francis Longsdorf (1864-1953) married Elizabeth Derrick in 1886. They had 5 children:
Essie K. (1888-1989), unmarried
Eugene (1894-1975), m Betty Defrank
D. Maxwell (1897-1992) m Wilhelmina Young in 1923 and had one son, Charles E.(1927)who married Lois Adams in 1948.
A. Miriam (1902-1996) m Raymond Lesher in 1929 and had twin sons in 1931(Robert and James), 8 grandchildren and 13 great grand children.
Claire H.(my grandfather) (1891-1983) m Edna Dorsey in 1913.
Claire H. had two children Robert H. (1915) and Elizabeth E. (1918). Robert married Marie Krause in 1940, has 2 daughters (Carole and Susan), 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Elizabeth married Fred Egner in 1943 and has 2 children (my sister Barbara and me)and 3 grandchildren.
That's the short version of our Longsdorf lineage as we know it for the past 8 generations.
If you can add any information regarding the immediate descendants of Daniel Langsdorff, please get in touch with me. We also have information on the families of Daniel's 2 brothers, Henry and John, if that is of interest to anyone.
Thanks for the help and let me know if there are any questions.
