.....also regarding the geographical occurances of Longshaw as a place name in the UK, to my limited knowledge there are a few places in the regions to either side of Stoke-on-Trent which bear the name Longshaw, namely, Longshaw Common (Greater Manchester), the village Longshaw near Alton, Derbyshire, and the Longshaw Estate (previously the Duke of Rutlands hunting lodge) in the Peak district just south of Sheffield.
The tight geographical references to the name could suggest that there may have been a Longshaw of some importance in this area in the past, but so far I haven't had any success in finding them.
