Karen,
I have been reading all that I can on the Lopers in hopes of finding my gr grandfather Enoch's family. what I have found is that the Lopers live on Long Island and all Lopers come from them. Jacob Loper came from Holland in 1647 and married Cornelia Melyn the same year. He was one of the nine men on the Council in New Amsterdam. He died in 1652 leaving wife and 2 children--James and Jannekin (Joanne). She remarried and they lived in East Hampton. Many Lopers still live in Amagansett nearby today.
You will find much info on the Loper family and genealogy if you will go to the website--www.longislandsurnames.com and type in Loper and I know you will find William. I believe he was Uriah's father or son, but if not.... a close relative. If I don't write all this down, it all mixes together after a while. Meanwhile, I search for Enoch who was born in NJ.
