Carol I would love to see that death certificate. I have not seen the original marriage certficiate of Joseph and Jemima but I have seen it transcribed in a book.
Blount County, Tennessee Marriages 1795-1865. 2157 Lawpaser, Joseph et ux Jemima Betsaws (may be Lampaswe to Betsams) 12/22 1825 By Hugh Bogle, J.P.
So I do not know why there are different names...a previous marriage...and I am with you...I would think you could find someone with that last name but I never have either.

As far as there deaths I think they both died in Indiana as well. I have these to newspaper articles that do not state first names but they are the only ones in the census in this area of this age so it is most likely them.

Death: Most likely in Morgan County, Indiana
Martinsville republican Jan 6, 1881 states December 30, 1880 Death of Mr. Lapossa, a very old man at Eminance, this county. All information I have leads to the conclusion that this is Joseph Lopossa.

Martinsville Republican , Indiana.
Two entries
30 Dec 1880: Grandma Lopossa was bruied to-(unable to read) Died from old age; very old
6 Jan 1881: Old Mrs. Lowposy said to be the oldest lady in Morgan county, with one exception, was buried Sunday, the 26. inst.
I believe this to be Jemima Lopossa.

I would love to know what other information you have. I have never found parents for either Joseph or Jemima. Lots of maybe people but that is all.
Also, I have some photo that are possible Lopossa family. Do you have some as well. If I sent them to you do you think you might know who they are??
