Looking for any information known about the parents of Foldie Valentine LORENTZ. His parents are suppose to be from Germany and were supposedly first in Philadelphia and then in Pittsburgh PA. We have no idea what his father’s first name was. His mother’s name was something like Caterina Philapina. His father was supposed to be a baker or own a bakery in Pittsburgh. Foldie was born October 12, 1860 we think in Pittsburgh. He married Lena ADDISON in Quaker City (Guernsey Co.) OH. Lena did not want to have anything to do with the Lorentz side of the family and thus we have very little information.

Family stories say that three brothers (always something about three brothers in genealogy, yes?) moved to OH from PA just as three earlier brothers came from Germany to the US.

We do know that Foldie was a glass blower in and around OH. Names of his siblings are Mary, Carrie, Jacob, Frederich and John.

Mary LORENTZ’s husband worked for a company that made fire extinguishers and we think she lived in Cleveland. We have no idea what her married name was.

Carrie LORENTZ married a SLAUGHTER in Newark OH and may have also lived in Sisterville WV.

Jacob LORENTZ “kept books” in Muncie, (Delaware Co.) IN at a glass factory.

Frederick LORENTZ lived in Sisterville, (Tyler Co.) WV also in Muncie, (Deleware Co.) IN. He may have moved to Kansas City. He also worked in a glass factory. Had children - names are (???) - Fred, Jr., Keith (girl), Cuba (girl), Bud (boy), Exalia (boy) (????).

We know nothing about John LORENTZ.

What is typed above about Foldie’s siblings are just stories past down through the generations. I am hoping that someone may recognize any of the above names and hopefully may have more information about this family than we do. Foldie was my husband’s great-grandfather and we can only go back to him on that side of the LORENTZ family.

From what I’ve read on the Net there are Lorentz’ who changed the spelling of their last name to Lawrence and other spellings. This never happened as far as we know although one of Foldie’s and Lena’s sons last name on birth certificate in Quaker City was spelled “Laurentz”.

Please let me know if you have any further information about this family.
