MIFFLINS FATHER WAS JACOB LORENTZ BORN 28 FEB 1775 LANCASTER PA DIED 11 APR 1866 IN LORENTZ WVA. MARRIED REBECCA STALNAKER 10 JAN 1803. SHE WAS BORN 21 OCT 1786 TYGERTS VALLEY RANDOLPH VA. DIED 11 DEC 1860 LORENTZ

MIFFLIN WAS THE CLERK OF THE COURT IN LEWIS/UPSHUR CO. WHEN THE WAR BETWEEN THE STATE BROKE OUT HE PLEDGED HIS LOYATY TO THE SOUTH. WAS ALMOST HUNG AS HE SPOKE FOR JEFFERSON DAVIS ON THE COURT HOSUE STEPS. HE LOCKED THE COURT HOUSE AND TURNED THE KEYS OVER TO THE SHERRIF CLOSED HIS PALATIAL NEW RESIENCE AND TOOK HIS FAMILY TO LYNCHBURG VIRGINIA WHERE HE STAYED UNTIL THE TERMINATION OF THE WAR. HE NEVER SERVED IN THE WAR. HE WAS EXEMPTED FROM THE WAR BY JEFFERSON DAVIS IN ORDER THAT HE MIGHT PROTECT THE DEFENSELESS WOMEN AND CHILDREN.
