Today I was looking at microfiche of Lowell, Massachusetts, city directories. In the 1836 directory (the only one to list female millworkers), I saw this entry (p. 104):
Loud Clarissa, Low. bds at 7
Loud Sarah, Law. bds at 53
This means that Clarissa LOUD worked for the Lowell Mills and boarded at their boardinghouse number 7. Sarah LOUD worked for the Lawrence Corp. and boarded with them.
I recall your mentioning a Clarissa LOUD from NH or Maine--might she have worked in Lowell for a spell?
