I found this marriage record in _A Record of Births, Marriages, and Deaths in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Vicinity, 1699-1742_ (microfilm from Genealogical Society of Utah):

"Peter Massuerre Giron and Sarah Loud of Portsmo were Marryd 31th of March 1737"

I believe a French name such as "MASSUERRE GIRON" was very unusual among the English settlers of Portsmouth, NH, in the early 1700s. Does anyone have any information on Peter (or Pierre) M. GIRON? Could he have been an Abenaki converted by the French (as many Abenaki were) and given a French name?
