Loughney/Lockney of Palmyra, Wayne Co., PA, 1860
I found my great, great grandparents, Matthew and Catherine Canders Loughney and their children:(a) Michael, born in Ireland about 1841; (b) Mary, born in Ireland about 1845; (c) Sara, born in Ireland about 1847; (d) Thomas (my ggf), born in Ireland about 1850; and (e) Catherine, born in Hawley, PA, 11-22-1853, in the 1860 Census of Palmyra Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania.I have traced the descendants of Matthew and Catherine through to the present. However, in the 1860 Census the family name was spelled “Lockney”, and for the 1850-1870 time period, in the records of Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace R.C. Church in Hawley, PA, I have found “Laughny” or “Laughney”.
In the same 1860 Census and in the records of Queen of Peace Church I have found the following Lockneys or Laughneys living in or near Palmyra, Wayne County, PA:
A.Lockney, Martin, 32 born in Ireland, about 1828
Mary, 28, born in Ireland, about 1832
Mary R, ?, born in PA
Bridget, ?, born in PA
Catherine, born in PA, 1-21-1860
Bridget, born in PA, 2-5-1862
Michael, born in PA, 9-6-1864
Martin Laughney & Mary Tymon were married on 2-20-1857, at B.V.M., Queen of Peace.
B.Lockney, Michael, 28, born in Ireland, about 1832
Catherine, 26, born in Ireland, about 1824
James,born in PA
John, born in PA, 8-14-1860
Thomas, born in PA, 7-11-1862
Mary Ellen, born in PA, 7-11-1862
Michael, born in PA, 8-18-1864
C.Laughney, John, born (?)
Ellen, born (?)
Michael, born in PA, 9-20-1862
John, born in PA, 11-26-1864
John Laughney & Ellen Doherty were married on 8-18-1861, B.V.M., Queen of Peace.
D.Laughney, Martin married Rose Milia on 8-31-1861 at B.V.M. Queen of Peace.Witnesses were Thomas & Catherine Laughny.
I believe that all these Laughnys, Laughneys, Lockneys, and Loughneys are members of the same family.I would certainly like to hear from any descendants of Martin and Rose Tyman Lockney (Laughney), Michael and Catherine (?) Lockney (Laughney); John and Ellen Doherty Laughney, and Martin and Rose Milia Laughney to explore the possibilities of family relationships.
Thanks,
Robby
