Read your messages about the Loutzenhiser name.
Since the German language has no "ou" diphtongs, I always assumed the correct/German spelling of the first part to be "Lautzen" a place in Germany.
I think the last part could would either come from:
1) "heizer" meaning a person who works around fires, like a person who stokes furnaces or a fire man - someonewho works around fires; but I think that a fire fighter is a "feuerwehrmann";
or
2) "heiser" meaning "hoarse" or "husky" discrbing their voice.
Since people were often named for their jov and their town/area, I'm inclined toward Lautzenheizer, a furnace stoker or fireman from Lautzen.
My wife, a native German, and I visited all of the "Lautzen" & "Lutzen" in the Lautzenhaussen area, but we missed Sohren - we had no lead/reason to look for it. We found no "Lautzen.."s nor "Loutzen.."s
There are "Lutzen"s, another possible derivitive.

My father is Vinton Okla L... from Oklahoma
His fater and grandfather were Otto Clyde L.. and Charles L.. (I don't know which was which). I think they were from Nebraska.
We seem to have ties back to a Jackob L.. from the east.
I wouild enjoy communicating with anyone about us or any family reunions.
There is a Loutzenhiser school; some sort of a preserved site in the mid north east somewhere.
