Lowden DNA project
Hi all.
My name is Kai Ove Gran, and I have started a Lowden surname project at FamilyTree DNA (http://www.familytreedna.com). Its URL is http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Lowden/http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Lowden/
This project uses Y-DNA to look for matches to confirm common ancestry. Y-DNA is inherited from father to son, so it is ideal for a surname project. Only males have Y-DNA, but females can join the project by testing her father, a brother, paternal grandfather or paternal uncle. Currently I'm all alone in the project, but I'm hoping to see some of you there in the future. If you decide to test your Y-DNA, please join the project first as it will allow you to buy the test at a reduced cost. Alternate spellings of the surname are also very welcome.
A little bit about myself. I live in Norway and I've been involved with genealogy for five years plus and genetic genealogy for a year. I've been looking for my direct paternal great great grandfather for several years and had a breakthrough earlier this year, proving that it was shipmaster Peter Lowden (1838-1882) of Dundee, Scotland. The most distant ancestor that I've found is Gilbert Lowden of Dundee born around 1740-1750.
Feel free to ask if you have any questions regarding the project. I look forward to tracing the Lowden ancestry with you.
Kind regards,
Kai Ove Gran
