Hello all,
I have some info on Jessie Loya and her siblings. Dick, you were right. There were siblings between Lucy and Jessie (if they really were sisters). I went to Shoreham and Benson the other day to do some digging and was well rewarded. I found that four children were born to Andrew Doner and his wife Nancy Patnode (spelled Patneux in the records I saw)in Benson, VT. They are as follows:
Rosey Bell Doner b. 25, JUL 1872
Lauretta Doner b. 20, DEC 1874
Charles Doner b. 25, NOV 1877
Jessie Juliette Doner b. 08, MAY 1880
Their parents are listed as Andrew J. Doner, b. Peru, NY (just south of Chazy)and Nancy Patneux b. Orwell VT (the town I grew up in).
I'm wondering if Andrew was married before and had Lucy in NY, then came to VT and married Nancy -- maybe Lucy and Jessie were half sisters. Whatever the case there is quite a time span between the two. Lucy had her first child, Mary, in 1870 (correct me if I'm wrong). Therefore, I would guess she was born sometime in the 1850's -- Jessie wasn't born until 1880. Is it possible that Andrew was Lucy's brother, not her father? Let me know what you all think. I'll keep digging. I'm hoping to find Andrew and Nancy's marriage cert. to see if it was his first marriage or not. Talk to you all soon.
