Loya Family Genealogy Forum
I've got some new info., thanks to Louie. I found out that he had a copy of Andrew and Nancy's marriage cert., which I had been looking for to find their parents and figure out if it was really possible that they were Lucy's parents. Louie sent me a copy and I was also in Benson again looking over some more of their records (my in-laws live in Benson and its 10 mins. away from my house). Here is what I found out. It was hard to read the handwriting in the book where their marriage was recorded, but I spent some time deciphering it and I'm 99% sure that I have the spelling correct (if it was correct in the first place). Andrew's parents were Thomas Doner and Sophia (Goreline) Doner. His birthplace is listed as Schuyler Falls, which is also in Clinton County NY near Peru (which was listed as his birthplace on his children's birth certificates). Nancy's parents were Charles Patneau (I believe, it looked abbreviated in the book as Chas) and Julia (Coats) Patneau. They were married July 01, 1871 in Benson, VT. Andrew was 23 and Nancy was 17 -- it was the first marriage for both of them. This, in my mind, virtually rules out any possibility of Andrew and Nacy being Lucy's parents. Lucy had already married Thomas Sr. and had their daughter Mary in 1870. I do believe that it is more likely that Andrew was Lucy's brother. Judging by their marriage dates and the births of their children, they were quite close in age. Also, Andrew's parents were Thomas and Sophia. Ellen Loya had a daughter named Sophia. If Lucy and Andrew were siblings, Sophia Goreline Doner would have been Ellen's maternal grandmother, and possibly she named her daughter after her. (?) If anyone thinks my thinking is flawed please let me know, but this is my best guess based on the info. available to us at the moment. Of course its pure conjecture on my part, but I believe that, if they were related at all, Andrew and Lucy were more likely siblings or cousins. I don't see how it is possible that Andrew was Lucy's father in light of this new info. Let me know what you all think. Talk to you soon.
