Hi all,

The aunt who lived in the woods that you mention in your May 23, 2000, posting was
Belle Oakes (married Joel Oakes.)

I just asked my mother what Belle's maiden name was and she can't remember. She said that everyone just called her Aunt Belle and that Aunt Belle always smoked a corn-cob pipe.

My father was adopted by Joe & Lottie LaPine so Mary Loya Merritt Atwood was his adopted grandmother. (My grandmother Lottie's maiden name was Merritt.) Mary Loya Merritt Atwood was also a blood relation to my mother (but not my father) so they all had the same family members.

I seem to remember that Mary Loya Merritt Atwood was born about 1870 She had Lottie (Charlotte) when she was 15 or 16 and she and Lottie always had a really close relationship because they were so close in age.

Hope this helps.

Shirley
