1870 NY census Clinton County Champlain

Layan, Thomas 28 M Works on farm Canada
Lucy 27 F NY
Cora 7 F NY
Mary 1/2 F NY

I suggest that you look for baptism records in Champlain, Clinton County for godparents. You may find aunts and uncles.
Loyer is not a common name. There are only a few places in Quebec that Loyers had settled. Also look for Loyie, Loguer, Logue, Loyear, Lahaie, Lawyer, Layer, Laquer

Look not only for Thomas, but Damase.
