The Loya family of Spain and Portugal originated in the lugar of Loya, del Apuntamiento de Esprogri, judicial district of Aoiz in Navarra, Spain. Later branches of the family were established in Pamplona, Sanguesa and in Asturias de Santillana (Santander), They came from northern Spain.
My grandfather's name was Jose Loya Portillo and he came from Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico. His mother's name was Benigna Portillo. I have never heard that there was a town by the name of Loya in Mexico, but if you ever find it, please send me the information.
